Covers for your shepherd
A German shepherd takes every job seriously, from guarding the porch to following you room to room. Give yours the front page: their photo, their name and their service record, in headlines you write.

Before you start
Shepherds suit a heroic cover: Medal of Honor, Loyal Shadow, Head of Security, Ears Up Always. Then add their real record: the mail carrier they have never trusted, the commands they learned in a week, the kid they won't let out of sight and the belly rubs they pretend not to want. Start with their name and their rank; every line can be changed.
Catch the ears up: say their name or make a quiet squeak just before you shoot. Black-and-tan and sable coats lose detail in shadow, so shoot facing the light, outdoors or by a big window, and avoid a bright sky behind them. Get level with the eyes and frame the photo vertically to make the most of that noble head. An all-black or white shepherd needs the same soft, even light.
Many shepherds are working dogs or rescues with a story, and the cover can tell it: a K9 partner retiring, a service dog graduating, a rescue's first year home, a first obedience ribbon. It is also a simple birthday or Father's Day gift for anyone whose shepherd follows them from room to room and waits by the door until they're home.
